What An Example

She is young. In fact, she is a high school student and in our youth group, but what a great example she was to me last Sunday morning. Her godly confidence and Christ-like actions left TJ and me looking on in shock. What an example! Before you have time to question how a teenager can set such a good example for adults, let me remind you of the words Paul wrote to Timothy. "Don't let anyone look down on you because you are young, but set an example for the believers in speech, in life, in love, in faith and in purity."(I Tim.4:12) Yes, even young Christians can set great examples for us older Christians and that's exactly what she did and this is what happened. As I entered the atrium after first service on Sunday I noticed a teenager who had never been here before. After meeting her I went straight to TJ so he too could meet her and show her the way to Bible class. As TJ and I approached her, one of our high school girls stepped right up to her to introduce herself and the next thing we knew this young leader was walking our visitor to class. TJ and I just looked at each other with excitement and he asked, "Did you tell her to do that"? I assured him that I had not said anything to our young leader. She simply saw an opportunity in which she could serve and be used by God and she wisely took advantage of it. I can't tell you how proud I still am of that young lady. You may think that I'm totally overreacting to this but I don't, not at all. Approaching someone you don't know and who is new can be intimidating and uncomfortable, but it's something we should all do. "Be wise in the way you act toward outsiders; make the most of every opportunity."(Col.4:5) How many of us miss opportunities that God gives us? Our young teen leader saw the opportunity and seized it and set a wonderful example to our visitor and to TJ, me and whoever else witnessed her kind act. What an example!
