"What A Milestone"
May 18, 2026 | By Chuck
Milestones are those important life events that mark our accomplishments and progress. Birthdays, baptisms and graduations are all important milestones. Several achieved a milestone yesterday when they graduated from high school. After high school graduation a new phase in life begins. You are a young adult now. Some of you will be moving away from home, parents and family for the first time. That also marks a milestone in your life.
Graduates, as you prepare to make your next move in life and reach more milestones, allow me to offer a few words of advice. Wherever you go and whatever you do, always remember whose you are. I know you will never forget your parents and grandparents and all that they have done for you. You shouldn’t and that’s great, but that’s not at all what I’m referring to. If you go to college, enlist in the military or get into the workforce, never forget that you belong to the Lord. For the last 18 years your spiritual life relied heavily on your parents. When you leave home your spiritual life depends on you.
What will you do? Will you do anything? Will attending worship on Sunday continue to be a priority for you? Will you take your Bible with you when you leave home? Will prayer be something that still affects your life? Will Jesus and your spiritual life matter to you as much as it does to your parents? These are real questions that every Christian who leaves home must contemplate.
Your faith journey solely belongs to you now. No matter what you do in life, I encourage you to make your faith journey your top priority. If you continue to seek God first and live for Him daily, you will be the best person you can be. If you continue to grow spiritually you will be a good friend and influence to others. If you always love Jesus the most, you will someday be a great spouse, parent, employee or employer. There is no greater milestone in life than to live faithfully to the Lord.
“Trust in the Lord with all your heart, and do not lean on your own understanding. In all your ways acknowledge him, and he will make straight your paths” (Prov. 3:5-6).
