The God Of This Age

Last Sunday as churches across the country gathered for worship, a small church in a little Texas town did the same, only this would be their most memorable gathering. A gunman entered their place of worship and opened fire killing 26 innocent people. A small community is stunned. Church goers across the country are growing more and more concerned about this increasing problem of violence against churches. Every time I hear of another act of violence, where ever it takes place, I'm reminded that the god of this age is very much alive and at work. "The god of this age has blinded the minds of unbelievers, so that they cannot see the light of the gospel of the glory of Christ, who is the image of God."(II Cor.4:4) Satan is the god of this age and he does all he can to deter as many as possible from obeying the gospel that brings peace. The Texas church shooter, the Las Vegas gunman and all other mass shooters have no peace because they have no relationship with Jesus. Each violent act was driven by evil and powered by the influence of the evil god of this age. We see the influence Satan has on this world with each act of hate and violence. We Christians must cling tightly to God and work diligently to spread the gospel of salvation and peace to this lost world. The hatred, violence and mass shootings will cease when everyone yields to the one true God instead of the evil god of this age. "Be self-controlled and alert. Your enemy the devil prowls around like a roaring lion looking for someone to devour."(I Pet.5:8)
