Snapshots, Selfies & Sexting

"Snapshots, Selfies & Sexting" We live in a cyber world today. It seems social media has taken over. Remember the old MySpace page and now there's Facebook and Instagram just to name a few. We used to call and check on family members and friends but now we simply send them a text or an instant message. Just as we feel the need to check the weather everyday so we also feel the need to update our status and post our most recent picture. Back in my day we took snapshots or Polaroid pictures on vacation but today we take pictures with our phone and immediately post for all to see. Yes, this is technology which is a sign of growth and progress but with all of this high tech progress also comes some serious problems. From 'selfie Sunday" to "throwback Thursday" to what has become the problem of our age, 'sexting". I know 'selfies" are just pictures people post of themselves. I understand what a 'selfie" is; I just don't understand the significance or the point. I'm not trying to be rude or offend anyone; I just don't get posting pictures of me by myself without my wife, kids or friends. I realize 'selfies" aren't that big of deal and in fact may be a generational thing. What about 'sexting"? How many of you don't even have a clue what 'sexting" is? From what I understand, 'sexting" is when two people text inappropriate pictures of themselves to each other. Believe it or not, this has become a huge problem among TEENAGERS. That's right; teenagers that you and I personally know are sending or receiving inappropriate images. At the very least our teens know someone who is actively 'sexting". You see, Satan knows how to use social media for his own sinful purposes. This 'sexting" thing is so terrifying to me because it is sin and it hooks our teenagers because they think no one will know. It's my opinion that 'sexting" is simply one step in a series of steps that will lead them down a sinful path and to life altering decisions. If you are the parent of a teenager you need to know that I will be teaching our teens on Wednesday night's beginning September 10th. I tell you that because I will teach them a lesson on the horrors and harm of 'sexting". I just want you to know in advance about this one particular lesson in case you don't want your child to be present for it. "But among you there must not be even a hint of sexual immorality, or of any kind of impurity, or of greed, because these are improper for God's holy people."(Eph.5:3) Notice the text says not even a "hint" of sexual immorality. "Sexting" is more than a hint of sexual immorality. Chuck Ball
