Leadership

You know I'm a HUGE Peyton Manning fan. Of course I enjoy watching the guy play football but I also have a great deal of respect for him as a person. Peyton is a great leader on and off the field. He is a true man of integrity and character which makes him a wonderful role model. I was fortunate to see firsthand where Peyton's leadership ability comes from when Dylan and I heard his dad, Archie, speak at Harding University last week. Archie spoke about leadership. Using many stories from his own playing days and some stories about his boys and current NFL quarterbacks, Peyton and Eli, he discussed how we should think and act like leaders. If there's one thing our world needs its good leaders. We need men and women of good character and integrity to stand up and lead this generation and to model true leadership for the next generation. From businesses to huge companies to churches, they all struggle and endure some kind of problems when their leadership is lacking. In fact, many of the church problems I've seen over years have been the result of poor leadership. As we seek to install additional shepherds here at Cabot church, let's be mindful and prayerful of men of character and integrity who will serve well with our current six shepherds and lead us in a way that will honor God. One thing that we all need to consider about leadership is as Christians we are all leaders. I know not all will serve as shepherds, deacons or even Bible class teachers but if you are a Christian, you are a leader. "But you are a chosen people, a royal priesthood, a holy nation, a people belonging to God, that you may declare the praises of him who called you out of darkness into his wonderful light."(I Pet.2:9) Remember, as God's "chosen people" we need to be leaders and show true leadership at the office, in the classroom or on the field to all we come in contact with so they may see Jesus in us.
