Don't Overlook The Gift For The Presents

December 02, 2014 | By Chuck

Christmas time is a very special time of year. Some of my favorite memories from my childhood are from Christmas time. Children are so excited at Christmas time because they get a break from school but especially because of the presents. Parents are excited because there's nothing better than seeing the look on your child's face as they open a present from you. The presents at Christmas are special because they show our love. I think we all enjoy receiving a Christmas present. It's so fun to unwrap the present and to be surprised by what's inside. So much of Christmas has become about the presents under the tree. Again, I think the presents are great and I'm sure there will be plenty under our tree. I just wonder if we tend to overlook the gift because of all the presents. One of the things that I hope Christmas time does is bring attention to the greatest gift that anyone has ever received. The greatest gift was born to a virgin for the purpose of salvation. "She will give birth to a son, and you are to give him the name Jesus, because he will save his people from their sins."(Mt.1:21) I realize we don't know for sure when Jesus was born and truthfully, that doesn't bother me at all, because we know that he was born. The world chooses Christmas time to recognize the birth of our Lord Jesus Christ and personally I think that's fantastic. As we shop for Christmas presents for our loved ones and as we enjoy time with our family opening those presents let's not overlook the gift for the presents. Please remember, the greatest gift of all was not wrapped in pretty Christmas wrapping paper and placed under a beautiful and well lit Christmas tree. The greatest gift of all was wrapped in cloths and placed in a manger.(Lk.2:7)
