Caring For One Another

When I think of the phrase "caring for one another" I automatically think of family. I think of family because that's what family does. Family cares for one another which can mean a wide variety of things depending on the circumstances. As Christians, members of the body of Christ, we are family. "Pointing to his disciples, he said, "Here are my mother and my brothers. For whoever does the will of my Father in heaven is my brother and sister and mother."(Mt.12:49-50) Jesus teaches that Christians are family. Since we are family in Christ then we should be actively caring for one another. The early church seemed to understand the family concept and the importance of caring for one another. "All the believers were together and had everything in common. Selling their possessions and goods, they gave to anyone as he had need."(Acts 2:44-45) Can you imagine selling something you own so that you can help out your brother or sister in Christ? May sound somewhat foreign today but the early church did whatever was needed to care for one another. Caring for one another says you are never alone no matter what's going on. Caring for one another says you have a family even if you don't have a physical family. Let's view the church the way we should, as family in Christ and take to heart the phrase caring for one another. Chuck Ball
