A Heart Transplant

It's amazing where we are today with modern medicine. Doctors can do so much more today than they were not able to do some years ago. Just think about a heart transplant. A doctor can literally take the heart from a deceased individual and surgically place it into the chest of the one who is in need of a healthy heart. That's simply incredible and nothing short of amazing. Sometimes I wonder if we Christians need a spiritual heart transplant. Could it be from time to time that we need the Great Physician to cleanse and readjust the focus of our heart from the things of the world to Jesus? After David's sin with Bathsheba and having her husband murdered, I think a spiritual heart transplant is exactly what David needed and wanted. Hear the cries of David's heart after he sinned against God. "Create in me a pure heart, O God, and renew a steadfast spirit within me."(Psa.51:10) David's heart had become cluttered with the desires of the flesh and he desperately needed a spiritual heart transplant. Interestingly enough, David recognized his need and asked God for a spiritual heart transplant when he asked for a pure heart. I think we all at times could use a spiritual heart transplant. "For from within, out of men's hearts, come evil thoughts, sexual immorality, theft, murder, adultery, greed, malice, deceit, lewdness, envy, slander, arrogance and folly."(Mk.7:21-22) That's why it's so important that we are cautious what we digest with our eyes and mind and allow into our hearts. Constant negative input will certainly lead to negative output. "Above all else, guard your heart, for it is the wellspring of life."(Prov.4:23)
